Sportsmanship Award

Dominick A. Zuliani Sportsmanship Award

Good sportsmanship is one of the most important aspect of the game.  As parents, guardians, and coaches, we do our very best to instill the finest qualities in our children as they grow into adults.

Groton Little League presents a Sportsmanship Award to one player at the end of every season.  The player that is chosen to receive this honor is someone who conducts themselves on and off the field with fairness and respect towards others.  This player is gracious in victory, and well-mannered in defeat.  This is not an award that is based on skill; it is given to the player who most exemplifies selfless dedication to team, tireless enthusiasm, and an unwavering respect and love for the game of baseball.

The Sportsmanship award is named after a former Groton Little League player - Dominick A. Zuliani.  Dominick lived in Groton and played baseball at Washington Park, the very same fields we practice and play on today.  He played and made his way through Little League, beginning in Farm League (known today as minors), then moved on to Little League (majors), ultimately graduating and moving on to Groton Babe Ruth.

Dominick became ill in high school, passing away a few years after graduation.  During his years playing baseball, he was known for his sportsmanship.  Dominick was a gracious winner, always honorable in defeat, respected others, an
d respected the game of baseball.  Groton Little League is grateful to have an award named after such an individual.
